The Department

The Kinesiology and Health Sciences department is part of the School of Health and is located in the main campus building in Grande Prairie. Within the department we offer a Kinesiology Diploma program as well as university transfer programs for Kinesiology (B. Kin and B.Sc. Kin), and Kinesiology/Education combined.                 

The Role

The Kinesiology and Health Sciences department is seeking a full-time sessional instructor. This is a tenure-track position, subject to favourable evaluations and budget. This position will include classes in the fall and winter semesters, with the possibility of spring courses (May & June, online only). The courses of instruction may include:

  • PE1040 Introduction to Sociocultural Aspects of Leisure and Sport
  • PE1050 Introduction to the Administration of Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Programs
  • PE1210 Introduction to Personal Physical Fitness
  • PE2040 Leisure and Sport in Canadian Society: Historical Perspectives
  • PE2420 Introduction to Nutrition for Exercise and Performance
  • PF2980 Advanced Training Methodologies

Different courses may be available depending on the background and expertise of the candidate and fit within the department.

Requirements

A Masters in Kinesiology or a related field is required for tenure-track positions, and a PhD in Kinesiology or related field is preferred.  A combination of a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field paired with appropriate experience may be considered for the instruction of individual courses. Preference will be made to candidates who have a sport sociology or related background.

Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

  • Ability to apply different instructional strategies to meet the needs of and support diverse learners
  • One-year adult teaching experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of Northwestern Polytechnic courses and current educational technologies  (e.g., videoconferencing, D2L).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Student Focused
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability
