Position Summary:

As a member of Professional Practice leadership team, the Clinical Resource Team (CRT) Clinical Educator role supports the Hospital’s strategic plan and corporate goals and objectives throughout the organization.  Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice, and Clinical Resource Team (CRT) the Clinical Educator role functions as a practitioner, consultant, educator and facilitator for all M site RN & RPN CRT team members.  Key to this role is identification of staff learning needs followed by development, implementation, and evaluation of programs.  Apart from program specific responsibilities, the Clinical Educator provides consultation and support throughout the Hospital, and participates in Hospital-wide educational initiatives, working groups, or committees, as required.

Job Description: 

  • Develop, plan, deliver and evaluate orientation and continuing education to members of the CRT Nursing team. 
  • Oversee the quality of care delivery by the team n collaboration with the Clinical Educators. 
  • Support staff engagement and workforce resource planning, including retention and recruitment strategies to ensure stable workforce within the CRT
  • Collaborate with and support orientation preceptors for clinical experience;
  • Monitor and evaluate individual integration of learning into clinical practice and partner with individual members of the inter-professional team to establish recommendations and plans for improvement and/or achievement of clinical excellence;
  • In partnership with the preceptors, arrange for the provision of education and competency testing for Delegated Controlled Acts, advanced nursing competencies and other medicine specific skills
  • In collaboration with the Director, design and implement initiatives that support and align with the strategic plan for the organization
  • Participate in organizational and Program committees as required
  • Participate in regional educational and planning activities as required
  • Participate in global (hospital wide) education and planning as required

 

Key Qualifications: 

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of Masters degree in a health related discipline 
  • 3 - 5 years recent medicine/surgical nursing experience 
  • Fosters the integration of professional excellence in clinical practice
  • Provides mentorship and support to staff in achieving developmental goals
  • Formal education and experience in program planning and evaluation preferred
  • Facilitates the change process that supports quality and patient safety
  • Expert communication, organizational and time management required
  • The ability to decision make, problem solve and multitask are essential
  • Advanced preparation in educational strategies and/or adult education 
  • Ability to provide clinical coaching one to one or in groups is essential
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and educating skills
  • Proven leadership qualities preferred
  • Proven success in managing changing and transforming workplace culture
  • Supports the Patient Care Manager in the selection and appraisal of staff as requested
  • Demonstrated consistency in approachability, clinical excellence, patience, respectful interactions and diplomacy 
  • Demonstrated ability to excel during times of change and role-model effective change management
  • Proven commitment to evidence-based practice and reflective practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice 
  • Competence with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel 
  • Commitment to organizational values including excellence, collaboration, accountability, respect, and compassion
  • Excellent attendance and performance record required
