Job Description

The Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), within the School of Medicine, invites applicants to apply for a 12-month non-tenure track position.

Required Qualifications 

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders 

  • Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC-SLP) 

  • Holds or eligible for Nevada State License in SLP 

  • Holds or eligible for Nevada Department of Education License in SLP 

  • English proficiency both spoken and written 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Spanish proficiency both spoken and written 

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in pediatric evaluation and treatment, specifically in the areas of dysphagia/feeding and swallowing, social-pragmatic skills, stuttering, speech sounds, motor speech disorders/apraxia of speech, language, and augmentative and alternative communication 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of Speech-Language Pathology 

  • Experience working in pediatric school or clinical settings (e.g., early intervention, K-12 schools, private practice, and/or outpatient facilities).  

  • Experience supervising graduate students/interns for a minimum of three years after earning the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). 

  • Committed to applying current best-practices to teaching and clinical education 

  • Interested in fostering the development of students to become professional leaders 

  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary capacity with health care and education professionals across the university and the community 

  • Interest in building clinical services in rural Nevada communities. 

  • Completed a minimum of two hours of continuing education in clinical supervision.

Duties & Responsibilities 

Provide didactic and clinical instruction during the 12-month calendar year to support the educational mission of the department. This will include involvement in our Bachelor’s degree and Master of Science in speech-language pathology programs. The person in this position will provide clinical services to clients in the university-based clinic (University Health, as operated by Renown Health), provide clinical instruction/education to graduate students within the university-based clinic and/or in community-based settings in local and rural Northern Nevada areas. The ideal candidate will be willing to travel to rural Nevada communities as a component of this position. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background, competency, and interests of the individual.
