Position Summary:
Dominican University invites applicants for clinical adjunct nursing faculty for the simulation and skills lab for future semesters. Instructors are sought on a rolling basis in anticipation of future program needs. There is no start date or deadline for applications; candidates may be contacted regarding their interest in future opportunities as they arise. Adjunct Faculty appointments are per semester and contingent upon enrollment.
 
Primary responsibilities will include delivering high-quality, hands-on clinical education with facilitation of both basic and advanced clinical skills development, managing high- and low-fidelity simulation scenarios, and providing critical support in developing the clinical reasoning and decision-making skills essential for nursing practice.

JOB COMPONENTS
  • Simulation and Skills Lab Instruction:
    Facilitate and supervise nursing skills and simulation lab sessions, teaching and assessing core nursing skills, including but not limited to: patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, IV insertion, and emergency response techniques.
  • Simulation Scenario Design and Implementation:
    Collaborate with nursing faculty and the Director of Simulation Education Center to implement realistic, evidence-based simulation scenarios that enhance critical thinking and clinical judgment. These scenarios should reflect both acute and chronic care settings relevant to BSN-level nursing practice.
  • Student Evaluation and Feedback:
    Provide ongoing formative and summative assessments of student performance during simulation activities, utilizing rubrics, checklists, and other evaluation tools. Offer constructive feedback to guide students in developing their clinical competencies and decision-making skills.
  • Debriefing and Reflection:
    Lead debriefing sessions following simulations, encouraging reflective practice and critical thinking. Facilitate discussions on clinical decision-making, patient outcomes, teamwork, and communication skills to promote learning and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: 
    Partner with the Director of Simulation Education Center and full-time faculty members to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical scenarios within the simulation laboratory environment to optimize student learning outcomes.
 Required Qualifications:
  • Illinois license as a Professional Registered Nurse
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) 
  • Two years of current nursing practice experience
  • Current clinical practice in one or more of the following: Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Community Health nursing, Mental Health, and/or Medical/Surgical nursing
  • Previous teaching experience using high-fidelity simulation equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of simulation technologies used in nursing
  • Skill in operating various low, mid, and high-fidelity simulation manikins and related equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence
  • Certification in simulation education (CHSE) or similar credential.
  • Experience with debriefing models such as PEARLS, Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML), or similar.

Salary and FLSA Status
  • Salary: $1,400 - $6,000. The actual pay is determined based on credentials, course level, and credit hours. Pay could differ for directed study courses.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt, Part-Time.
