Academic Health Sciences Program Strategist

Kahler Slater is seeking an Academic Health Sciences Program Strategist to join our team in the programming, planning, and design of environments for health sciences, nursing, dental, and medical education programs for college and university campuses across the country.  
 
Our ideal team member is passionate about translating our clients’ goals into strategic space strategies that are aligned with the unique nature of blending pedagogy with practice. In this role, you will help to lead our clients through our design process that centers on aligning their strategic vision with the design of health science learning environments.  You bring a deep understanding of higher education, health sciences education, healthcare practice, and trends in design for creating interdisciplinary environments that support experiential learning to educate the next generation of healthcare providers. As a key team member, you will leverage your strong portfolio and professional network to excel in relationship building and driving market growth. You will lead and collaborate with our design team and clients to identify project goals and key drivers and create effective future forward design solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities of an Academic Health Sciences Program Strategist:  

Project Leadership  
  • Partners with clients in determining goals and objectives of the facility through purposeful visioning, programming and planning processes 
  • Inspire, motivate, and lead the project team in client service, design approach, and project delivery  
  • Establish an environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, and design creativity  
  • Contribute to a high level of energy and enthusiasm in the firm, and foster a spirit of collaborative problem solving and design excellence  
  • Facilitates the collaboration, coordination, and documentation between the end-users, the owner, and the design team  
  • Develops, manages, and facilitates measurable data collection through project visioning, interviews, focus groups, end-user surveys, observation, and post-occupancy evaluation  
  • Assists in leading the planning and design phases of significant health sciences education projects, translating volume projections, facilitating equipment placements, and developing design layouts during early phases of the project  
Business Development  
  • Utilize established connections and network within the higher education and health sciences community to strengthen existing client relationships 
  • Support team marketing and business development efforts which could include marketing proposal strategies, interviews, project pursuits, networking events, and thought leadership   
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of an Academic Health Sciences Program Strategist:  
  • 10+ years of experience in academic health sciences education programming and planning  
  • Professional degree in Architecture or Interior Design preferred  
  • Healthcare programming planning experience is also valued  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and furniture and fixtures 
  • Strong facilitator of meetings leading clients through the design process  
  • 4+ years of Revit production experience, and proficiency utilizing Revit  
  • Proficient in digital 3D modeling to communicate planning ideas to users 
  • Successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors  
  • Strong communications skills, spoken, written, and graphic  
  • Focuses on collaboration and cooperation with others, demonstrating design leadership  
  • Efficiently responds to client needs  
  • Able to coach and be coachable  
  • Effective time management with multiple deadlines 
  • Maintains a positive, professional attitude 
Working relationships and scope for an Academic Health Sciences Program Strategist:  
  • Reports to Team Leader  
  • Engage with internal senior leadership

Working conditions of an Academic Health Sciences Program Strategist:  
Some travel between our office and client project locations will be required to serve clients, develop new business, and for professional development. We expect this travel may be 25%.
